Week 43:
I was reading a blog article on The Crucible Project website this morning written by my friend and mentor Judson Poling. It is titled: The Long and Winding Road (Hmmm, reminds me of a song).
Judson’s perspective on focusing on just the step ahead reminds me how I tend to view life. I wrote on this in a Devotional blog article a couple of years ago titled: Destination… Today, I still tend toward living my life as if I am working toward a destination and not the journey.
Now, there is some truth to living for a destination. However, that destination is the ultimate one…Heaven, eternity with Jesus. Unfortunately, I tend to live daily for a destination hoping just to catch a breath. What happens is that once I reach the “destination” I realize that there is more to the journey. I become disappointed and discouraged that I have not yet arrived.
God only promises one destination. The rest of this life is a journey of living for His glory and helping others to do the same.
I am thankful for Judson’s reminder for me to continue to adventure through my journey.
Matthew 6: 27; 31-34
27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Questions/Challenges:
1. Where in your life are you
living for the destination?
2. What are some
disappointments/discouragements you have encountered once you felt you had
arrived?
3. What are some ways you can
enjoy the mystery of the “Journey”?
4. Pay attention this week
where you are looking to “arrive” rather than journey. Ask God to grant you peace as you take your
next step in your journey.
